Why won't my snapshot or volume delete successfully?

SDSC Cloud’s notifications sometimes may indicate a snapshot or volume is being deleted successfully, but it actually is not deleted. Please examine the possible causes listed below and contact support@sdsc.edu if the troubleshooting steps do not help.

If Volume Won’t Delete

Volumes cannot be deleted if existing snapshots were made from them. Deleting associated snapshots may allow the volume to be deleted.

The SDSC Cloud Dashboard does not show the relationship between volumes and snapshots. SDSC engineers can determine the relationships if requested at support@sdsc.edu.

Snapshots cannot be restored after deletion.

If Snapshot Won’t Delete

Snapshots cannot be deleted if existing new images were made from them. Deleting associated images may allow the volume to be deleted.
