How to Resize an Instance

How to Resize an Instance

Overview

Instance vCPU and RAM resources may be updated by “resizing” the instance to a new set of vCPU and GB RAM quantities, where those sets are called “flavors” in SDSC Cloud Compute.

Steps

  1. Advised: save important work to persistent storage. If needed, follow the snapshot guide: Creating and Launching Instances from Snapshots

  2. Navigate to the SDSC Cloud Dashboard

  3. Log in with your SDSC Cloud credentials.

  4. Navigate to Compute → Instances

  5. Select “Resize Instance” from the instance’s drop-down menu.

  6. Select a new flavor, then click “Resize.”

  7. Wait for the instance to resize. The progress should be displayed under “Power State” in the list of Instances. The browser may need to be refreshed to update the instance’s reported state.\

  8. Log into the instance and verify the instance is properly running.

Questions?

Check out the SDSC Cloud FAQs page. If answers to the questions aren’t there, email support@sdsc.edu to ask an SDSC Cloud Engineer.
