How to Share an Image Snapshot with Another SDSC Cloud Project

This guide explains how to share configured images with collaborators within the SDSC Cloud Compute environment. It assumes a snapshot of the configured image has already been created. Please see the Creating and Launching Instances from Snapshots guide for detailed snapshot creation instructions.

Instructions

  1. Log into the SDSC Cloud Dashboard

  2. Navigate to Volumes → Snapshots in the navigation menu on the left.

  3. Choose the “Create Volume” action from the desired snapshot in the list of Snapshots.

  4. Navigate to Volumes → Volumes in the navigation menu on the left.

  5. Choose "Create Transfer” from the drop-down menu to initiate a transfer to the group with whom you want to share the snapshot.

  6. Fill out the transfer settings

    1. Give the transfer a name. The name should help the receiving group identify the transfer.

    2. Save the Transfer ID and Authorization key

    3. Give the Transfer ID and Authorization key to the person you receiving the transfer.

  7. The person receiving the transfer can click the "Accept Transfer" button at the top of the volumes section (under their project) and enter the ID and key. The volume will then be transferred from your project to their project.
